ABOUT MARGARET SOBSTEL

Margaret Sobstel

Margaret was born and raised in Wroclaw, Poland. In 1987, she obtained her degree in English Philology, English Language and Literature from the University of Wroclaw, Poland. She immigrated to Canada in 1990. After working as a legal assistant, she decided to pursue a career as a lawyer. In 2001, Margaret graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law with her Bachelor of Laws with distinction. She has practiced primarily in the areas of Family Law and Wills and Estates. In August 2017, she joined the firm and is excited to be part of the team.

Her main practice includes resolving disputes between married and common law couples, including parenting, custody, child and spousal support, valuation and division of matrimonial property and drafting separation and cohabitation agreements. She also drafts Wills, Powers of Attorney and Personal Directives and is experienced in Probate applications.

Margaret understands legal dilemmas involving family matters are very difficult for clients, emotionally and otherwise. Because she has been through a divorce, she appreciates the emotional turmoil clients are going through, and aims to resolve their issues in an amicable and respectful way. While she encourages the resolution through mediation, viewing litigation as an option of last resort, she is quite at home in court, and has successfully argued cases at all levels of Court in Alberta, including Provincial Court, the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal.
